Synopsis
The filmmaker went back to his hometown and lived with his villagers. In the means of poetric and politic actions, he tried to establish the pedigree of history and mythology of this common village, and tried to make a film.
As a member of the village as well as a videographer, he made a research in an archeological way on the Xiaomaojia that had 20-plus people from 11 households, and shot on its history and mythology based on the internal information he found. Also, he created several items and put them in the village, so as to study what special meanings they had in the living context of the village and the villagers’ unique concept of universe about them.
Xiaomaojia Universe and the historical book Nine Songs are symmetric in writing format. This film can be seen as a strict establishment of Ximaojis’s status in history, like the customary form of tomb burial. The people of Xiaomaojia will eventually die. We hope that, more than their bones, what remains will include this heroic film that belongs to them.
