CIFF series of screening activities, "Youth Film Fortnight" was held
Youth Film Fortnight - CIFF series of screening activities opened in Librairie Avant-Garde, Nanjing on June 13th. In this screening event, film lovers and general audience could watch more than a decade of independent domestic film works, and had the opportunities to interact with young film directors, experts and other guests on-site. CIFF event official said that this would contribute a lot to the movie ecological environment in Nanjing.
The activity has been held six times till 1st September, with 1-2 films screened every other Saturday in the afternoon and will continue after the 6th CIFF (China Independent Film Festival). It is known that the first quarter (2009.6.13-10.3) screening consists of two units. In the first unit, audience can enjoy some feature films including Crossroads (Wang Jing), Sunflower Seeds (Wei Ating), Ma Wujia (Zhao Ye), etc, which depict stories about perplexed and pure youth. The second unit included documentaries such as Who is Hao Ran (Yang Yi-shu), Bing Ai (Feng Yan), The 7th Medical Ward (Zhang Tian-hui), etc, through which audience will touch a different world.
Youth Film Fortnight is one of CIFF series of screening activity units, while CIFF is also one of the visual culture events of RCM Art Museum, which has been held six times continuously. But "Youth Film Fortnight" is held for the first time.
Activity moderator Shen Xiaoping said, CIFF had accumulated a lot of excellent films over the six years, and had established its own film storage, which would be a waste if not shared with the public.
Many audiences said that only they could enjoy the works, during the period of the exhibition every year, and it would be a pity if they miss it. Because all the films were not available on official channels or DVD copies, therefore, free accesses to watching the films as well as chances to interact with experts had made this fair even more rarely.
As a multi-year, non-profit, and non-government activity of independent video, CIFF has always been concerned about the development process of China's independent video and dedicated to its collection, display, organization and research, and it is in order to promote the communication and interaction among independent video producers, audience and relational research institutions.
“CIFF has been held successfully for five times in Nanjing, which indicates the liberal atmosphere for independent films in this city”, said by Xian-Min Zhang, a professor of Beijing Film Academy, who is also one of CIFF plotters, “Lots of similar independent film-screening activities also exist in other major cities such as the Independent Film Community in Shenzhen and Shanghai Quyang Cultural Center, which are very experienced and more mature than that of Nanjing. CIFF annual activities have always been unknown to fame, while the Youth Film Fortnight is an attempt to popularize independent films to the public, and the organizers also hope that it will give CIFF a warm-up.”
